Just a filter?

It's just an air filter, can it really make a difference?

The facts are overwhelming when it comes to indoor air pollution yet many homeowners are not aware that indoor air pollution is affecting their health every day or the fact that the Environmental Protection Agency ranks indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to people’s health.

"In recent years, comparative risk studies performed by EPA’s headquarters and regional offices have consistently
ranked indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to people’s health.

The need to remove harmful pollutants and provide healthy air is essential."
(U.S. Environmental Protection Agency – Indoor Air Quality publication)

Most homeowners have the attitude that their air filter is “just a filter” when it is truly their first line of defense from the harmful effects of indoor air pollution.

"Indoor air pollution is the primary cause in as many as 50 million cases of occupational chronic respiratory disease each year
- a third of all occupational illnesses.  These are widespread, debilitating and affect people in their social and economic prime of life.
They are preventable with a minimum of resources."
(WHO's Guidelines for Air Pollution Control)

At Filtration Manufacturing we believe education is key when it comes to helping your customers make smart choices regarding their indoor air quality. Our objective is to educate our customers and enable technicians to become I.A.Q. professionals. Through doing this we work together to promote the lowly air filter to one of the most important items in the home.

Indoor Air Pollutants include:

Allergens (particulates): Animal dander, pollen dust mite feces, dead human skin flakes, plant spores, dust and parts of dead insects in the 2.5 (+) micron range.
They are most likely to be filtered by the hair in the nose or throat.

Airborne Pathogens (bioaerosols): Toxic viruses, bacteria, fungi, mold spores and environmental cigarette smoke in the 2.5 (-) micron range.
They are most likely to be inhaled and deposited in the alveoli of the lungs.

Gaseous Pollutants (VOCs): They are emitted by a wide range of products such as paints, dyes, adhesives, cleaners, personal hygiene products,
dry cleaned clothing, formaldehyde, and thousands of other sources.
(There are as many as 583 different gaseous pollutants in homes)Health effects can vary greatly from those that are highly toxic, to those with no known health effects.

All of this information can be overwhelming but we have narrowed it down to help our customers better understand which products can help prevent each of the above problems.

Below is a basic guideline of which filters and products can help prevent indoor air pollutants.

"Allergies are responsible for 3.5 million lost U.S. workdays each year, at a cost of $639 million.
An estimated two million school days are lost each year due to allergies, with an indirect cost reaching $4 billion."
